Curious onlookers have been arriving at the Piemonte hospital in Messina, Sicily since yesterday, where the proclaimed weeping Madonna is housed in a glass case near to the ER entrance. Some witnesses claim to have seen tears streaming down the statue’s face however opinions are divided amongst hospital staff. “Everyone has their own opinion. I’ve never noticed it in the statue" said Armando Caso, security officer at the hospital. “It could also be an effect of the paint because the statue has been recently restored. The ecclesiastic and technical experts will need establish the credibility or otherwise of the matter”. Believers in the miracle, however, offer an explanation: “There are those who say that the statue of the Madonna is crying because they want to close the hospital and transfer it to Papardo, but I think it’s a contrived interpretation. We need to pray and have faith regardless of such events” Caso concluded.
