Democratic Party (PD) freemasons number more than 4,000 out of the total of nearly 21,000 members of the 744 lodges in Italy, 50% of which are concentrated in Tuscany, Calabria, Piedmont, Sicily, Lazio and Lombardy, with the highest numbers in Florence and Livorno. The figures emerged from an interview, conducted by Italian newspaper La Repubblica, with Gustavo Raffi, Grand Master of the Grand Orient of Italy and former secretary of the local Republican Party.
"Is the PD now aware that the left is also the offspring of Freemasonry?" questions Raffi. "They confirm the names of those exiled to Paris during the fascist period, the partisan brigades in Spain and the Constituent Assembly, where of the 75 members, eight were Freemasons, from Cipriano Facchinetti to Arturo Labriola, Meuccio Ruini …". From the "PD case," adds Raffi, some good could come, which would be "the end of this history of secrecy, the poisoned fruit of the acts of the mattress-maker from Arezzo", Licio Gelli, "which has no reason to continue."
